The memorial is the first of its kind in the world. The 11-foot high
bronze monument portrays a soldier from the former Republic of South
Vietnam and an American solder standing side by side on a 5-foot tall
marble base with the flags of their country behind them. The statue
symbolizes the unity, cooperation and friendship of brothers-in-arms
fighting for the cause of freedom. The renowned Vietnamese-American
sculptor, Tuan Nguyen designed the memorial and constructed two bronze
figures. The memorial flags will be flown at all times and will be
illuminated at night. The memorial has a waterfall element, circular
concrete granite plaza, plus an eternal flame. The park will have a
50-foot flagpole flying the American flag. The memorial has a
concrete/granite circular area and walkways entering on three sides.

Phase I construction began on 29 April and is progressing very well on the
Vietnam War Memorial in Westminster. Construction has been planned in 2
phases primarily due to available funds: Phase I (adequate funding set
aside for initial plan) will be primarily rough grading, underground
utilities, meters, all works within the 90-foot plaza (except the granite,
urn and waterfall), concrete walkways, lighting and the 50-foot high
flagpole. Concurrent to this phasing, the city is constructing Freedom
Park to include underground utilities, concrete walkways, benches, Tot Lot,
drinking fountain, restroom facilities, etc. Phase II of the memorial will
include the park entries, handicapped ramps and railing, complete
electrical not done in Phase I, all granite work, waterfall system, urn and

finish grading. However as construction has progressed some of the items in
Phase II (not yet funded) had to be moved into Phase I. This has created an
urgent need to raise an additional $50,000 in order to complete Phase I or
create considerable rework and cost later.

The site of the memorial is located at 14180 Monroe Street, Westminster, CA
(Corner of Monroe St. and 13th St. adjacent to the Westminster Civic
Center). Concurrent to the memorial construction, the city is building a
park called Freedom Park. Together they will cover 1.40 acres. The
planned Freedom Park with the Vietnam War Memorial at its center is truly a
public/private partnership.

Over $550,000 has been raised for the project by The Vietnam War Memorial
of Westminster, Inc., a non-profit organization (501C3-#33-09107272);
